6 Steps towards Mindfulness
By being mindful, you enjoy your food more, enjoy family and friends more, you enjoy anything you are doing more. Anything, even the housework, can be amazing if you are really in mindfulness state. Try remaining present while washing dishes or sweeping or cooking. It needs practice but it’s really incredible.
Do one thing at a time
Don’t do multitasking, do one thing fully at one time. When you are eating, just eat. When you are pouring water, just pour water. When walking, just walk and feel it.
Avoid overloading yourself with tasks
If you do less but specific things, you will do with more concentration. If you just fill your day with tasks, you will be rushing from one thing to next without thinking. Just figure out what’s more important, and let go of what’s not.
Spend at least five minutes in silence
Spend at least 5 minutes each day of doing nothing. Just sit in silence doing nothing and focus on your thoughts and breathing patterns. Notice the world around you. Become comfortable with stillness and peace.
Don’t think too much about future
Become more aware of your thinking, don’t be constantly worrying about future. Recognize when you are doing this and then bring yourself back to the present. Focus on now and enjoy present moment.
While talking to someone, be present
How many of us spend time with someone but think about something else or think about what to say next rather than really listening to the other person. Focus on being present on really listening on enjoying your time with that person.
Eat your food slowly and enjoying
Food can be crammed down our throats in a rush, but where’s the joy in that. ? Take each bite slowly, really get the most of your food. Interestingly, you’ll eat less and digest you food better and will never get fat.
